Mr. Backens has over 30 years of global mining experience including most recently serving as Interim CEO of the Alio Gold Corp. until January 2017. Mr Backens broad experience encompasses investment banking as Director of Investment Banking - Mining for Scotia Capital and corporate experience in senior management roles with Meridian Gold, Placer Dome and Goldcorp in the areas of engineering, mine construction, mine management and corporate development. Mr. Backens is currently a director on Alio Gold Inc., and has also served as a past director on a number of junior mining/resource companies. Mr. Backens holds a Bachelor of Science in Geological Engineering from South Dakota School of Mines and was formerly a Professional Geologist.

CEO and Director

Mr. Turner has over 15 years’ experience in the mining industry, which includes significant experience in Mexico where he oversaw permitting processes and technical work. Mr. Tuner previously held a senior management position at Argonaut Gold Inc., where he was a key member of the team that successfully completed four acquisitions totaling over $700 million. Prior to his position at Argonaut Gold Inc., Mr. Turner was employed by Yamana Gold Inc. and Meridian Gold Inc. in increasing levels of responsibility in the accounting and finance areas.

President and Director

Mr. Perez has been a Vice President at Carrelton Asset Management Inc., a natural resource focused asset manager since 2005. He’s played a lead role in the acquisition and financing of precious metal mining companies in Mexico and Central America. Mr. Perez is the CFO for Minera Apolo S.A. de C.V where he oversees a portfolio of 6 exploration/development projects in Mexico. He also is a Director in Credipresto S.A. de C.V., a company which provides financing to the junior resource sector throughout Mexico in coordination with FIFOMI (Fideocomiso de Fomento Minero).  Prior to this, he was a Senior Analyst at Salomon Smith Barney Asset Management. Mr. Perez has an MBA from the University of Miami.


Mr. Hubert was most recently CEO and director of Andean Resources Limited from 2006 until December 2010. When he joined Andean, the company had a market capitalization of $70 million and a resource base of about 800,000 ounces of gold. Mr. Hubert helped lead Andean through several discoveries which increased the resource base to over 5 million ounces of high-grade gold as well as subsequent feasibility studies, financings and permitting. Andean was ultimately acquired by Goldcorp for $3.5 billion. Prior to his tenure at Andean, Mr. Hubert was Vice-President Corporate Development and Investor Relations with Meridian Gold Inc. During his 14 year career at Meridian, he gained considerable experience in the areas of finance, exploration, project development, permitting and construction. He has a bachelor of science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Cape Town and an MBA from Brigham Young University.


Mr. Reyes studied economics and business administration at the Instituto Tecnologico Autonomo de Mexico (ITAM), from which he received a Bachelor’s degree in econo- mics and another in business administration. Mr. Reyes also earned a Master’s degree in finance at ITAM. In 2004, he studied an advanced course in Financial Derivatives. Mr. Reyes is the founder and President of CrediPresto and Antares Capital Management. The latter is a company that manages three hedge funds: Antares Capital Fund, Antares Oil & Gas and Cygnus Real Estate Opportunity Fund. He began his professional and financial services career in 1996 at a well-known brokerage firm in Mexico City, Estrategia Bursatil. In 2001, he founded a financial consulting company, where he became CEO.


Mr. Gomez worked at Bank of America from 1980 to 1985, JPMorgan Chase from 1986 to 1988, UBS from 1991 to 1997 where he Managed the half billion USD Spanish Equities Fund and Credit Suisse from 1999 to 2006. From 1991 to 1999 Mr. Gomez also taught Finance at the MBA level at the European University and City University in Zurich, Basil, Frankfurt, Monoco and Zug. Mr. Gomez is a graduate from the Instituto Technologico de Monterrey in Accounting, an MBA from City University, Zurich and is a CFA.


Mr. Montaño is a Certified Public Accountant with a post graduate in accounting at Universidad Panamericana de Guadalajara, Jalisco. He is currently the Chief Executive Officer of C-UNO, S.A. de C.V. which is part of the group which owns a series of retail chain stores in Mexico and South America.

Mr. Montaño holds various other positions which includes:

  • Secretary and Board Member of Codesin, which is the private sector chamber for economic development for the State of Sinaloa;
  • President of Administración de Crediavance, S.A. de C.V. Sofom ENR, which is a microfinance company with a presence in Sinaloa, Sonora, Baja California Norte, Baja California Sur, Nayarit and Jalisco;
  • Member of the Board of Promotora de Casas y Edificios SA de CV, which is a real estate developer in Mexicali and Tijuana in the State of Baja California;
  • Member of the Board of Endeavor for the State of Sinaloa, a non-profit organization headquartered in New York that credits itself as pioneering the concept of high-impact entrepreneurship in emerging and growth markets around the world.
